Palisade Peaches: I've heard people (in particular my good buddy Matt Sparx) talk about these things as if  they are some of greatest things on the planet since I moved here almost a year ago.

Now I love me a good juicy peach (don't get me wrong) but when I go to the store and buy peaches, I'm typically just looking for the best price and quite honestly, with the different kinds of peaches I've tried, they all pretty much taste the same to me.

Sure, some are juicier and riper or whatever (I mean, I'm no peach expert) but I just find it hard to believe that this Palisade Peach is THAT much better than an everyday run of the mill peach at King Soopers.

I get it, there's a LOT of pride that comes from being a Coloradan and I get that, and I understand that because this is an awesome place to be from. I totally get shouting it from the mountaintops and loving everything that IS Colorado, and the fact that they are actually grown here is huge in so many ways.

I recently found out where exactly Palisade is (sorry, I'm a transplant that's still trying to get my bearings here, especially around the western slope where I haven't really been yet) and I also just found out that Palisade is considered the "Fruit Basket of Colorado".

Oh...and I did a little more digging about where these peaches come from and I gotta say, I'm impressed.

The Colorado River flows through the verdant Grand Valley, which is lined on all sides by towering mesas. On the valley floor, orchards bleed into one another, and these orchards include pears, apples, apricots, cherries, grapes, and peaches. So, yes, it’s special for its appearance, but my question is: why do I never hear about "Palisade Pears" or apples or cherries or apricots? Is it JUST the peaches that are awesome?

I've done my fair share of digging about where they come from and now I just have to try one, because I'm extremely curious. I think I'll conduct a taste test with a Palisade Peach vs. a regular peach so I can taste the difference.

Until then, I may have to just try this Palisade Peach beer by Breckenridge Brewery.

If you're like me and need a little education on just what makes these peaches so darn special, the below video is a good source. Now...the only thing left for me to do is find them in the store and try one.
