
Colorado Ranked Near Bottom in New 2025 Safety Study
In recent years, it still kind of seems like Colorado is the wild, wild west. Our state has been ranked as one of the most dangerous for many years in a row, and it seems like nothing will change.

While Colorado has seen a drastic drop in crimes such as auto thefts and catalytic converter thefts, other crimes keep the state on the notorious list of the most dangerous.
WalletHub’s 2025 Safety Study Explained
WalletHub recently released a new study for 2025 on the safest states in the nation, and Colorado doesn't rank anywhere near the top. WalletHub used 52 indicators that were grouped into five categories that include personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness.

Overall, Colorado ranked close to the bottom at 44. The only other states that performed worse than Colorado in overall safety were Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Colorado ranked fairly well when it came to financial safety at 17th. When it comes to personal and residential safety, this is where Colorado ranked the worst at 45th.
The Safest States in America (Top Five)
When it comes to safety in the United States, these were the top five locations:
- Utah
- Maine
- New Hampshire
- Massachusetts
- Vermont
Vermont was the safest state in the nation according to WalletHub, ranking first in financial safety and road safety. Our neighbors to the north, in Wyoming, made it into the top 10 as one of the safest states in the nation.
