Colorado Police Officer Charged For Using Taser On 75 Year Old

I can't imagine being a police officer. There are so many situations that require a split second decision; many of them life or death situations. I respect the uniform and the badge with all of my heart as I have some family members and lifelong friends that are police officers, so I do back the blue

This situation, however, is pretty unfortunate and thankfully, nobody was killed. According to KDVR, an "Idaho Springs Police Officer Nicholas Hanning has been charged with assault on an at risk adult by using a taser on a 75 year old man without giving proper verbal warning."

The 75 year-old, Michael Clark, has been hospitalized since May 30 with injuries from the incident after the officer allegedly kicked, punched and used a stun gun on the victim.

According to the arrest affidavit, a neighbor called police to Clark’s apartment complex at 10:42pm due to things getting a little to loud and rowdy. The neighbor's roommate then knocked on the door to talk to Clark when he was punched in the face.

The affidavit then goes on to say that officers arrived, spoke with the neighbors and then proceeded to knock on Clark's door, and that's when the REAL craziness ensued.

Later in the affidavit, it goes on the say as soon as Clark realized it was the police he put down the saw blade but without commands or warnings, the officer fired and struck the man with the taser.

The police chief of Idaho Springs has stated that the city is still evaluating the status of Hanning’s employment.
