Colorado is Home to Three of the Longest Golf Courses in the U.S.
Last week, Colorado's Castle Pines Golf Club gained national attention while hosting the pros for the BMW Championship, and for being the longest course the PGA Tour has ever played.
As it turns out, the Centennial State is actually home to three of the longest golf courses in the country - including one here in Northern Colorado. In August 2024, Golfpass.com published the ten longest courses in America.
At 8,058 yards, Antler Creek Golf Course in Peyton, Colorado landed ninth on the list for longest courses. This public place to play links opened in El Paso County in 2004. Designed by Rick Phelps, Antler Creek's challenging 18-hole course features three lakes, 73 bunkers, stunning views of Pikes Peak, and a beautiful, prairie Dunes-style blend of Colorado terrain and native grasses. The wide fairways artistically wind through the Woodmen Hills and Meridian Ranch communities.
While it's the longest course ever played on the PGA Tour, Castle Pines Golf Club currently measures as the fourth longest in the nation. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, this gorgeous 8,130-yard course, just south of Denver, was designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. It opened in 1981, but membership is required to play at this exclusive site. Panoramic views, a babbling brook, rolling hills, and beautiful gardens are all sights and highlights of the course at Castle Pines. Perched approximately 6,400 feet above sea level, the thin air adds roughly an extra 9-12 percent of distance on how far the ball flies on most full shots taken here.
The longest golf course in the country can be found about 45 minutes north of Denver, in Windsor, Colorado. Designed by Harrison Minchew and champion golfer, Fred Funk, RainDance National Resort & Golf made headlines when opening as America's longest course in 2022. The 18-hole masterpiece is 8,463 yards. Situated in the high plains, with an elevation change of about 250 feet, it's no wonder this semi-private course is a premier golfing destination.
