The City of Greeley begins yet another major road construction project that will be a big improvement once done.

Heads up to drivers in Greeley- you may need to find an alternate route for the next few months, as a new construction project will be starting June 1 on the segment of 59th / 65th Avenue from 20th Street to the Highway 34 Bypass.

Throughout the month of May, city crews have been working hard to repair storm pipes in advance of the road improvements. The final storm pipe repair at 65th Avenue north of 28th Street requires a full road closure that will begin on June 1, at the same time as the road construction.

As a result of this major project, 59th / 65th Avenue will receive new pavement, as well as new bike lanes. Crews will also realign a portion of the road, provide turn lanes at the three local street intersections, expand storm drains, all while working to improve the general safety of the motoring public. 59th Avenue from 20th Street to 21st Street will be upgraded to arterial standards and will see improvements in traffic flow as well as curb, gutter, sidewalk and street lighting.

Drivers are advised that 59th Avenue from 20th to 21st Street will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project, which is on track to be completed around mid-July. The segment of 59th / 65th Avenue from 20th Street to the Highway 34 Bypass will also be closed to drivers for the entire month of June to allow for repaving of the roadway.

Detours will be provided for motorists, and local traffic with no alternate routes will be accommodated for. Crews ask that drivers please comply with all posted detour signs, as they are for your safety, as well as the safety of the construction workers.

Just a reminder that bad weather has the potential to delay the construction, but all updates will be communicated to the public should closures continue past the anticipated mid-July completion date.

Please remember to drive carefully through this and all construction zones.
