What are the odds that one day you're just driving and suddenly, a fire hydrant - that has seemingly been soaring across the sky - crashes down onto your car?

I wouldn't say it's likely.. but apparently it's not impossible either.

A 21-year-old driver was issued a citation last weekend in Greeley after crashing into a fire hydrant, launching it over 150 feet while under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs, according to Greeley police.

The Greeley Tribune says officers responded to a traffic collision with injuries at 2nd Street and 11th Avenue in Greeley around noon on Saturday (May 29). Witnesses of the crash estimated the driver, 21-year-old Alexsaundra Montoya, to be going about 60-70 mph while driving southbound on 11th Avenue before losing control of her Jeep, causing her to drive off the road and hit a fire hydrant.

The vehicle also reportedly knocked over a bike lane traffic sign after going airborne, which left a trail of vehicle fluid.

As a result of the incident, a vehicle driving north on 11th Avenue was struck by the fire hydrant after the Jeep crash caused the fire hydrant to launch more than 150 feet. No injuries were reported from the vehicle struck by the fire hydrant, as per reports from the Greeley Tribune.

Montoya and the passenger in her Jeep at the time of the incident were transported to a local hospital with multiple injuries. Montoya reportedly hit her steering wheel so hard during the crash it caused it to bend.

Fire personnel on scene during the crash advised the injuries to be life-threatening. The Greeley Police Department’s on-call traffic investigator was later called in to investigate the case.

Thankfully, the injuries were determined non life-threatening once both parties arrived at the hospital, and the crash was then investigated by Greeley Police Department patrol officers.

The fire hydrant hit by Montoya had damage to its valve which caused flooding along 11th Avenue and 2nd Street in Greeley. The water department had to shut water off in a two-block radius for about an hour following the incident in order to stop the flooding and repair the hydrant.

Voluntary roadside maneuvers determined Montoya was under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs. She was given a citation for reckless driving and driving under the influence.
