Colorado City Named Safest Midsize City in America

When it comes to quality of life, what do you value the most? For me, living in numerous cities across the United States, one of the most important factors that I came to terms with was safety and quiet.

Living on a busy street in a sketchy area of town was stressful. Not only on me, but also on my wife and our two dogs. Safety and security are big things to consider when it comes to your family and where you may choose to live.

Many people also decide to live outside of a big city, such as Denver, and move to the suburbs. Mid-size cities that have a population of 65,000 to 250,000 make ideal places for many families across the United States. Ease of access to amenities and activities still keeps the creature comforts close by, but without the hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan area.

Broomfield Named Safest Midsize City in America

Every year, SmartAsset ranks the safest midsize cities, and the 2026 report was just released. You might be surprised to find out that one midsize Colorado city made not only the list, but took home the number one spot.

Broomfield, Colorado, has ranked as the number one safest midsize city in America. The below-average crime rates for both property and violent crimes make this Colorado city very attractive to new and established families looking for a safe place to call home.

Broomfield was also the only city evaluated with a FEMA natural disaster risk ranking of "very low".

Other Colorado Cities Also Made the Top 100 List

Three other Colorado cities were mentioned on SmartAsset's top 100 list:

• Centennial, Colorado - ranked 56
• Loveland, Colorado - ranked 92
• Fort Collins, Colorado - ranked 93

One other Colorado city ranked as the second lowest in the nation for mid-sized cities. Pueblo, Colorado, ranked 332.  Little Rock, Arkansas, ranked 333, the last on the list, with high property and violent crime rates.
