Denver Police are responding to a report of a person with a gun at the Denver School of Science and Technology at Montview Boulevard and Valentia Street.

School officials confirmed the school went on lockdown, in which activities have ceased and everyone is quiet and out of sight. Police learned the lockdown was modified to a lockout at approximately 9:35 a.m.

No shots have been fired and Denver Police are currently working to determine the legitimacy of this threat.

Just yesterday, parents with the school received the following warning about a threat investigation last week:

Dear DSST: Stapleton High School and Middle School Families,

I am writing to share that Wednesday we were informed by Denver Public Schools Safety and Security that a threatening email was discovered on their server. Because the recipients of the email were affiliated with DSST: Stapleton and because the content referenced a future bomb threat, we took these allegations extremely seriously and moved quickly. After extensive investigation by the Denver Police Department Wednesday evening, they reached the conclusion that the threat was not credible. Despite this conclusion, there will be an increased presence of Denver Public Schools Safety and Security on Campus tomorrow and Friday, simply an extra precaution.

The purpose of this email is not to alarm you. Rather, we want to assure you that the safety of students and staff is our absolute top priority. We trust the conclusion reached by the police department and don't have any reason to believe that there is a risk to students. However, we believe transparent communication is very important when it comes to the safety of our students.

Please don't hesitate to share any information, either today or in the future, that can help us ensure the continued safety of our students. I am grateful for your on-going support of our campus community.

Sincerely,

Jeff Desserich

Campus Director, DSST: Stapleton

We will continue to give updates as more information becomes available.
