Berthoud Resident Dies In Two-Car Crash On U.S. 287

A 34-year-old Berthoud resident died and 5 Fort Collins residents were hospitalized after a two-car crash on U.S. 287 on Tuesday (Jan. 27).

According to a news release from Longmont Public Safety spokesman Jeff Satur, emergency responders attended to the fatal car crash at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 287 south of Park Ridge Road.

Police say a Cadillac sedan was driving south on U.S 287 when the driver lost control and started to spin sideways into northbound traffic. The sedan was hit on the driver’s side of the vehicle by a Honda Pilot which was traveling northbound.

Five people were in the Honda SUV and were taken to the hospital with various injuries. Police say those victims, who are all from Fort Collins, are expected to survive.

The name of the deceased driver will not be released until the Boulder County Coroner's Office can complete their investigation and notify family members.

As per the press release, icy road conditions and speed are being investigated as possible factors that may have contributed to the Cadillac driver losing control of his vehicle. No alcohol or drugs are suspected in any of the drivers.
