Dear Neighbor with the loud truck,

Stop being so annoying and disrespectful.

When you move into a new neighborhood, one of the big mysteries is, what kind of neighbors are you going to have? That especially comes into play when you have kids.

Thankfully, when we moved into our neighborhood here in Weld County, we were welcomed with open arms and found some wonderful people sprinkled throughout our neighborhood with plenty of kids for my son to play with as well, which is an added bonus.

Recently though, we've had a newcomer on our street. At least, I think they're newcomers. I mean, I've seen so many people come in and out of this particular house that I don't even know who lives there for certain. And that's all good, except for the fact that they have an extremely loud truck that, up until a couple of weeks ago, we never saw or heard before recently.

Let me start off by saying this, I have nothing against big trucks. In fact, I love them...I want one myself but they're a little out of my price range but I digress...the truck is a awesome and not the problem...neither is the noise really, if you got a loud truck and you want to show it off, go for it...I'm just asking that this person has a little common courtesy and looks at the time when this noise is going on. It's as simple as that.

This house is right next door to us and for some reason, they feel the need to run this extremely loud engine every morning between 5:45 and 6 am. Yeah. The truck just sits in their driveway and idles for a solid 15-20 minutes with nobody in it just making a bunch of noise. Not only has it woken the wife up, but our 6-year-old has also been awakened as well.

This has been going on nearly every morning for the past couple of weeks, and while it doesn't affect me personally because I'm already at work, my wife and my son - who doesn't get up for school until 7 am - have been affected by for the past few days, and it's starting to get annoying.

Not only that, but I have heard it revving outside at night as well right around 10-11 pm. To me, it's annoying and flat-out rude considering there are people that work early and kids that are in bed trying to sleep.

Now, I've walked over and introduced myself and we had,  what I thought was a productive discussion about it but it seems that conversation has been dismissed and I'm kind of annoyed by it.

So to this neighbor, I say: what the heck are you doing out there, and why are you letting your loud truck just idle out there (which is illegal in Colorado) and rev it up several times before you leave or late at night?

Am I missing something, am I the one that's out of line here? People are trying to sleep and don't want to hear your truck running annoyingly loud, just idling and listening to you rev it up like you're going to be doing some sort of drag racing out of your driveway.

Because it's possible, I'm not the smartest person on the planet. But in my opinion, if you don't have enough common courtesy and self-awareness to know that you have a loud vehicle and understand what time it is and be a little respectful about what you're doing and when you're doing it, that sucks.

So stop...please stop.

Sincerely,

Your annoyed neighbor. (And I know for a fact that I'm not the only neighbor annoyed.)
