An adorable kitten was taken to a shelter in Washington after being found in a box with a note apparently written by a child pleading for a loving home for the cat.

"My mommys boyfriend is mean to me. desperet (sic) for loving home," the note reads. It was lying inside the box with the kitten, which was found on a Seattle street.

The domestic, 1-pound orange-and-white kitty, later named Honeybee, was taken to a veterinarian, and then to the Meow Cat Rescue in Kirkland, Washington. According to the shelter's Facebook page, the female feline was healthy, aside from her low weight.

It is not clear how long the kitten was sitting in the box on the street.

"The baby is now in a foster home with other kittens of similar age and doing very well. We are so happy to have her," said the Meow shelter in a Facebook post. "We have more questions than answers, but are forever thankful for the bravery of the child who knew the kitten deserved better and the kindness of the woman who saved the kitten."

Meow Cat Rescue says that due to the kitten's small size and need for vaccinations and being spayed, she will not be available for adoption for a few more months.

"She is bonding with another male kitten and they will most likely be adopted as a pair in December," said Meow shelter's Marilyn Hendrickson.
