An 11-year-old Colorado girl passed away on Monday (June 29) in a California hit-and-run.

According to Fox 31 Denver, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. that night in Highland, when a dark-colored SUV struck Annika Fullerton, who was standing at a nearby intersection.

Fullerton, of Firestone, had traveled to California with her mother for a women's retreat.

Her father, Jim Fullerton, told the station that his daughter was walking with her cousins when the driver hit her, stating that paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

He hopes that the driver, who left the scene immediately after the accident, will come forward.

Fullerton described Annika as a smart, kind girl who was supposed to start sixth grade in the fall. Family friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
