The Weld County Sheriff’s Posse Needs Help Getting to Washington D.C.

Weld Co. Sheriff’s Office

We see them in parades throughout Weld County. These volunteers provide security at the Stampede, the Weld County Fair, the Weld County Farm Show, and other large events. They do so much for the community from searches for missing persons and evidence gathering to crime scenes.  Now the Weld County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse
needs our help to get to National Peace Officers Memorial Week in Washington D. C.   The mounted unit will be honoring the six law enforcement officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their communities in Colorado last year.  Colorado is the 3rd highest state in the nation for deaths in the line of duty for the year 2012.

16 of the 58 Weld County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse have met the criteria to travel east with their horses to Washington D. C. to participate in the Candle Light Vigil and the Peace Officers Memorial the week of May 15, 2013. Each member has personally contributed $500 to be donated to the National Peace Officers Memorial.  Weld County would be the first law enforcement agency from the Western United States to actively participate with their horses.

Weld County knows only too directly the pain and suffering an agency and community experience with the loss of a peace officer, a peer and a friend with the death of Deputy Sam Brownlee in November of 2010.

The members need our assistance to make this happen.  The expense for this trip is $70,000.  Contributions can be made on line at http://wcsoposse-inhonorofourbest.org .  Checks can be made out to the Sheriff’s Posse and mailed to Weld County Sheriff’s Office, 1950 “O” St, Greeley CO 80631 attention Commander (Retired) Margie Martinez Perusek. The Sheriff’s Posse is a 501 c 3.

This information is from an official Press Release from Sheriff John Cookes office.
