There are so many unwanted horses that end up going to slaughter.  I did not want to contribute to that, yet...

The last foal born in my barn 3 years ago was Mak, a colt (for non horsey folks, he's a boy). He was and still is perfect, of course most all horse owners think that!  I languished over whether or not to keep him a stallion.

Mak's sire 'Big Mak' and his dam 'Black Cashmere V' were each so lovely both in the show arena and in daily life...sweet, sweet, sweet Arabian horses... good citizens that should produce more of themselves?

When vet, Dr. Wheeler gelded Mak, he assured me this is the best life I could provide for my little guy and for me.  I wanted a horse who could be in my herd of 3 mares without, you know, making more babies.

Mak is the first gelding I've kept for myself and I hope he'll be my very last horse.  I figure we have another 30 years to ride, play, and hang out. Unlike my mares, he is totally into me...me...me...
