Charley Barnes Leaves On His 10,000 Mile/10 Day Endurance Ride in Two Weeks

I have done a lot of PR stunts in my radio days but nothing as adventurous as what I am about to do in two short weeks for Honor Flight Northern Colorado.

At 0900 hours on 4 June, I will be departing from the Weld Country Veterans Memorial in Greeley (16th St and 35th Ave.) on the toughest motorcycle ride I have ever attempted. I have done many endurance rides withing the Iron Butt Association but have never done one of the toughest; the 10/10ths which is 10,000 miles in 10 days.

To make it even more interesting, I decided to make it even tougher by starting with the 'Border to Border Insanity' which is Canada to Mexico in 24 hours (must be across both borders) and then I will follow that with the 'Coast to Coast' run which will take me from San Diego California to Jacksonville Florida in 48 hours.

The ride will officially end at 0900 hours on Flag Day, Saturday, 14 June and over 10,000 miles in 240 hours; 238 I hope.

The idea is to pledge money for miles to send Veterans on the next Honor Flight in September. $5 for 5 miles, $10 for 10 miles, $100 for 100 miles, $500 for 500 miles etc. I have already fulfilled my promise of raising $10,000 but we need more. Currently I have raised over $11,000 but would really like to see $20,000 before I leave. Every penny raised will benefit our local Veterans; none of the money will be used for ride expenses.
