Weld Deputy and Officer Injured While Taking Female Suspect into Custody

A Weld County Sheriff's Deputy and Frederick Police Officer were injured this Saturday morning while taking a female suspect into custody.

According to a news release, law enforcement responded to a report on February 4 at 11:20 a.m. of a female threatening family members with a knife in the Meadowvale subdivision of unincorporated Weld County. They made multiple attempts to instruct the suspect - identified as 29-year-old Kristin Lipsky - to show her hands and exit the residence, but she refused to follow them. The Weld deputy deployed his Taser on Lipsky but with minimal effect.

While they attempted to take Lipsky into custody, she made multiple stabbing motions at the head and neck area of the deputy. Both the deputy and officer were injured, but were able to take her into custody without using a higher degree of force.

Lipsky has been charged with 3 counts of felony menacing, first degree assault, possession of a schedule 2 substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The paraphernalia law enforcement found during a search was consistent with methamphetamine, according to the news release.

The deputy was left with a 1 1/2 inch laceration on the left side of his head, puncture wounds to his neck and arm, and a bite on his left forearm. He was transported to North Colorado Medical Center for treatment and was released. The Frederick officer sustained minor injuries and was released after being treated on the scene. Lipsky was also taken to North Colorado Medical Center for treatment before being taken to Weld County Jail.

All charges are merely accusations until proven guilty in a court of law.
