K99 has teamed up with LaSalle Oil to "Celebrate Colorado's Farmers and Ranchers!"

I was raised on a dairy. My dad and his brother milked about 80 Holstein cows when I was a little kid. I figured that I would end up milking cows myself some day. Instead I am working on the radio in one of the top milk producing counties in the U.S. - Weld County. Yes, Weld County has topped another list.

According to the Weld County website:

Weld’s dairies lead the state in the production of milk. Weld produces 57 percent of the milk in Colorado and has become the 17th largest dairy county in the U.S. in cow numbers (almost 70,000. Of the 130 dairies in Colorado, 74 of them call Weld County home).

  • The National Agricultural Statistics Service says Colorado is the 15th largest dairy-producing state in the nation.
  • 90% of the state's milk production comes from Weld, Larimer, Morgan, and Adams Counties.

The dairy industry in Weld County has grown even more in the past few years. In 2008, Leprino Foods, the world’s largest mozzarella cheese producer, built a processing facility in Greeley. There is no doubt, that gave the industry a boost.
