A judge has sentenced a Garden City man to 64 years in prison for severely beating, and almost killing, a woman, according to a press release from the Office of the District Attorney.

The incident occurred in March of 2019, when Garden City officers received a report of a disturbance at an apartment on 9th Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found a woman crying, with her face bleeding and bruised.

The woman explained that she was arguing with 45-year-old Wade Egloff the night before, when he began punching her in the face. He then choked her until she lost consciousness.

Later on, Egloff left the apartment, and the woman tried to lock him out. He was able to reenter through a window and began punching her in the face again.

The woman told police that Egloff held her captive in his apartment, refusing to leave her side and denying her access to her phone. She was not allowed to use the restroom, and was forced to urinate in bed.

Egloff also gave her sleeping pills so that she couldn't run away during the night.

According to the woman, Egloff instructed her to tell people that she got into a fight with another woman at a bar to explain the bruising. She was eventually able to get access to her phone and called 911.

A jury convicted Egloff of six charges in July, including Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault Strangulation, and False Imprisonment.

Deputy District Attorney Chris Ponce and Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wrenn oversaw the case, noting that Egloff had other victims.

"This defendant is a premiere example of distorted masculinity," said Ponce. "His 64 year prison sentence is just retribution for the victim in this case, as well as his past victims, and will ensure that our community is safe from the poison of his toxic masculinity."
