Did you know that Larimer and Weld Counties are considered book deserts? In fact, most of Colorado is a book desert. That means that a very large percentage of the homes in the state have less than 100 books in the home.  That's where Unite for Literacy steps in.

They are a company that hopes to eliminate illiteracy in our community, our state, our country, and our world. In order to do that they need the help of the business community to help by sponsoring books for children right here in Northern Colorado.

I had the opportunity to speak with Amy Hoeven From Unite for Literacy about the fact that we live in a book desert in this YouTube video:

WHAT IS UNITE FOR LITERACY?

We are a social enterprise company that brings private-sector cause marketing together with public and civic organization’s efforts to eliminate illiteracy at a community, state, national and global scale. We picture a world where all children have access to an abundance of books that celebrate their languages and cultures. We create picture book abundance by employing the convenience of digital technology and the power of community-based funding to put books in every home.
