Weld County Expected to Be More Populated Than Larimer County
IN less than a decade's time, Weld County is expected to overtake Larimer County when it comes to population numbers according to the Coloradoan. The analysis of projected growth comes from the most recent Census data.
Weld County is outpacing Larimer when it comes to growth and the shift in the most populous county could happen as early as the end of the current decade.
Weld County was the fastest-growing county in the state of Colorado with a 30.1 percent increase in the population. Douglas County came in second with a 25.4 percent population growth, and Larimer County came in fourth place with a 19.8 percent increase in population.
One of the fastest growing towns in all of Colorado was Timnath with a 937.9 percent increase in the population. In a decade's time, the city of Wellington nearly doubled in population from 6,289 to 11,047 residents.
Overall, the city of Fort Collins grew from 143,986 to 169,810 with a total population increase of 18 percent. Loveland's population increased 14.2 percent, increasing the total of residents to 76,378.
Both Larimer and Weld counties followed a national trend that reveals the white population has aged and has reduced to the smallest share of the population ever recorded. Weld County's Hispanic population now accounts for almost 30 percent of the total population.
With the news of Weld county possibly outpacing the population of Larimer County, does this surprise you? Weld County has always been known as an agricultural county and historically lower populations. With the explosive growth of Colorado in general, I do not believe that it is such a surprise.
