US Highway 85 Project North of Fort Lupton Starts Today
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Jalisco International, Inc. will begin work on the US 85 and Weld County Road 18 intersection improvements project today. (Wednesday, October 17)
This $1.7 million project includes resurfacing the intersection and installing a traffic signal.
Typical working hours are 7 a.m. to 5p.m., Monday through Friday. The expected completion is late spring 2019. However, this project is weather dependent, and this schedule may change.
Traffic Impact
Jalisco International will divide work on this project in multiple phases to minimize traffic impacts. For phase 1, starting today, southbound traffic on US 85 should be prepared for right-lane closures. Also, the west side of US 85 and WCR 18 intersection will be closed. Traffic will be detour at WCR 14 1/2.
The speed limit on US 85 will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone.
Future Project Phases
- Crews will close the east side of County Road 18 to through-traffic while crews resurface that corner of the intersection starting in December.
- Weather permitting, in February, crews will rebuild the center lanes of US 85 and delays are possible.
- In Spring 2019, crews will install the traffic signals at the intersection. While the structures are safely mounted, there will be temporary lane closures and traffic stops in the work zone.
