Denver ‘Hidden Gem’ Named One of the Best Restaurants in U.S.
To dine at this restaurant has to be quite the experience. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, and the the 'old fire house' is 140 years old.
Yelp released its Top 100 U.S. Restaurants of 2022, and Woodie Fisher Kitchen & Bar in Denver made the list. The previous year, four Colorado restaurants made the list, so 2022's competition had to have been pretty fierce.
Woodie Fisher is located in the Union Station neighborhood of Denver, near Coors Field. It's the oldest remaining building from 'back in the day.' It was in 1881 that the building opened as one of Denver's very first fire stations.
Hose House #1 was its name, before becoming a print shop, then a welding shop. In 1986 the building achieved historical status. According to Eater Denver, Redwood "Woodie" Fisher was a revered firefighter foreman who died in about ten years before Hose House #1 opened, while trying to stop a runaway horse-drawn hose wagon.
Open since 2019, the unique restaurant comes in at #82 on the list of 100, Yelp uses a lot of words that I don't necessarily understand when it comes to Woodie Fisher:
On a given visit, you might find a pan-roasted barramundi with sunchoke puree, coulotte steak with foraged mushrooms, and handmade pappardelle with Bang Island mussels.
I looked up a few words I didn't recognize: "Barramundi" is a fish, "Sunchoke" apparently refers to artichokes, "coulotte" is a lean steak.
A brief look a their menu, and you'll know to be ready to spend some cash.
Woodie Fisher Burger: $17
Grilled Pork Chop: $36
Meat Lover's Pizza - $14 (that's not so bad)
