There are currently 21 unsolved and open cases in Weld County right now.

These cases are cold, meaning they are no longer being actively pursued due to a lack of evidence.

However, that doesn't mean they are unsolvable — it's always possible that someone knows something. This is why we'll be exploring these cases in a series for "Tuned In to NoCo." 

But for now, here's an overview of the cases we'll be talking about:

1. Yvonn Rabb

Yvonn Rabb was a prostitute working in the Five Points area of Denver, when her body was found in a ditch near Weld County Roads 8 and 11 on November 15, 1981. She was last seen the night before in an alley near Big Al's Bar in Denver.

A witness heard a gunshot in the alley that night, and authorities suspect that her murder was tied to a drug transaction. Suspects were identified, but no one has been charged with her murder.

2. Margorie Sue Fithian

Margorie "Margie" Fithian was last seen with her 18-month-old son by her uncle at a bus stop in Denver. She was heading to Greeley, but her body was soon found in a ditch in rural Weld County on June 24, 1975.

She had been shot to death. Her son was alive, unharmed, and found near her body.

Witnesses saw a yellow or tan two-door car in the area. Robert Davis, Vern Hudson, Larry Hernandez, and others have been identified as suspects, but no one has been charged with her murder.

3. Sheila Birl

Shiela Birl was a prostitute in the Denver area. Her body was found near Weld County Road 51 on October 25, 1979. The last person to see her was her pimp, who said she was wearing a rabbit coat, a blonde wig, and green sunglasses.

Birl was a heroin addict and allegedly owed lots of money to a Kansas drug dealer named Big Mellow. Authorities suspect that her death was a result of a drug overdose, but no official cause has ever been determined.

4. Casimiro Morado

The body of Casimiro Morado was found stabbed to death in an irrigation ditch at Weld County Road 74 and Weld County Road 27 on October 25, 1983.

Benedicto Samuel Carrion is the primary suspect, but the Weld County Sheriff's Office still considers the case to be cold.

5. Robert Moody

Robert Moody was found dead of a gunshot wound inside his residence at Weld County Road 52 and Highway 85 on October 23, 1984. Suicide is still a possible cause of death, but family turmoil leading up to the discovery of his body has lead authorities to consider the case cold.

6. Denise Davenport

Denise Davenport, a student at the University of Northern Colorado, was last seen leaving work at the Greeley Mall on February 24, 1985.

Her car was later found in a student dorm parking lot, and her body was discovered in the South Platte River on April 20 of that year. Her death is considered a homicide, but no one has been charged with her murder.

7. Gerald Drieling

Gerald Drieling's body was found inside of his residence at Weld County Roads 10 and 23 on August 27, 1988. He was shot to death, and authorities believe that he had interrupted a burglary in his home.

Suspects were identified but no one has been charged with his murder.

8. Mario Mendoza

Mario Mendoza's beaten body was discovered floating in Fulton irrigation ditch #2 at Weld County Roads 4 and 29 on September 23, 1986.

Authorities believe that he was murdered in Adams County, and that his body floated to the location of discovery. No other information is available.

9. Robin Nelson 

A farmer found Robin Nelson's body on the side of a farm access road in Weld County on June 12, 1988. Authorities believe that she died of a drug overdose, but an official cause of death has not been determined.

She was last seen by neighbors, who were babysitting her son, four days before the discovery of her body.

10. Valerie Meeks

Valerie Meeks was a prostitute in the Denver area when her body was found in a field near Erie on July 17, 1991. No other information is available.

11. Tammy Cheeks

Hunters found the body of Tammy Cheeks in a concrete irrigation ditch near Weld County Roads 51 and 20 on November 15, 1992.

She was a prostitute in the Denver area, but her cause of death was never determined.

12. John Doe #1

The Weld County Sheriff's Office received a report about a homicide that occurred on September 17, 1993. Suspects were identified, but a body was never found.

The unidentified victim was allegedly picked up at The Break Pool Hall in Greeley, and then shot in a two-door, dark-colored sport sedan. The caller described the victim as a 30 to 40-year-old white male with an accent, sandy hair, and a rotting tooth.

13. John Doe #2

The Weld County Sheriff's Office was notified of the discovery of a body at Weld County Road 8 and Weld County Road 31 on August 12, 1995.

All they found was the skeleton of what was determined to be an adult, white/American Indian, right-handed male. He was found wearing 29 x 32 size pants, and a 34 x 36 size shirt.

The man had died of gunshot or stab wounds, and had likely been dead since at least July of 1994.

14. James Vooris

James Vooris was found beaten to death in his Super 8 Motel room in Del Camino on November 21, 1996. Authorities believe that the murder was drug related.

Leads were developed, but no one has been charged with his murder.

15. Sheryl Parker

Sheryl Parker was working as a payroll employee for Larimer County when her body was found in the St. Vrain River on July 26, 1996. She died of blunt force trauma.

She was last seen alive at the Budget Host Motel in Del Camino. Her husband, Glenn Parker, was the primary suspect.

16. Ruben Ortiz-Gutierrez

The body of 30-year-old Ruben Ortiz-Gutierrez was found in an irrigation ditch northeast of Del Camino on May 16th, 1998.

17. Brooklyn V. Digesualdo

22-month-old Brooklyn V. Digesualdo was being babysat by her mother's boyfriend in Evanston when he called authorities to report that the infant was not breathing.

He claimed that she fell off the bed when he left the room. Her cause of death has not been determined and foul play is suspected.

18. John Doe #3

A Weld County resident discovered a skeleton in the Cache La Poudre River east of Greeley on February 14, 2000.

The skeleton was a 5-foot, 4-inch male. Authorities believe he was from Oregon, but was murdered in Colorado.

19. Abandoned Baby

The body of a newborn infant was abandoned near Highway 85 and Weld Country Road 2 1/2 on September 11, 2002. The baby was wrapped in a blanket, and authorities believe that the child was alive at birth.

20. Sexual Assault Suspect

Authorities are searching for an unidentified man who allegedly sexually assaulted and tried to strangle a Hudson woman on December 19, 2003. He was last seen at the victim's home near Weld County Roads 39 and 8.

He is believed to be a 5-foot, 9-inch, 170-pound Latino male. He was last seeing wearing a red button-down, jeans, a black baseball camp, and a blue jean jacket.

21. Daniel Larson 

Hunters discovered the body of Daniel Larson in a field near Kersey on January 13, 2004. His vehicle was found, with evidence of foul play inside, at the Park & Ride at 1-25 and US Highway 24.

Originally from Illinois, Larson had been living in Loveland for around 5 years. He had been living out of his gray 1990 Pontiac 6000. His family contacted authorities after they lost contact with him.
