The Best Beer I’ve Ever Had is From Northern Colorado
I have been drinking craft beer for quite some time now. There have been many I enjoy, and there have been many I really disliked. It took me a few years to figure out what I like when it comes to beer.
For instance, I am not a fan of IPAs or beers that have a hoppy, bitter taste to them. In the summer I like my beer to be light and refreshing! Around this time of year is really my favorite time of year to have a brew. Why is that? Well, because I am a fan of stouts and barrel aged stouts. Barrel aged stouts tend to tickle my fancy more than any other beer I have ever had. I love barrel aged beers so much, that I have a little cellar that all of my bottles purchased over the years have gone into.
So my "cellar" is a table in the basement.... Whatever. I have waited in lines for years on Black Friday for some beers, others I happen to come across in the liquor store. But nothing prepared me for a random trip to a brewery in Northern Colorado over the weekend. Friday night was time to let loose and enjoy some time with friends and my wife. We decided to head out to Weldwerks Brewing in Greeley for a cheers to the weekend drink.
As soon as I walked in, I knew what beer I HAD to have. The single Barrel Medianoche. There was absolutely no chance anyone was going to change my mind on this at all. I ordered my beer and it came in a beautiful stemmed glass with gold leafing on it. The beer was as black as used motor oil and the aroma was out of this world. I am not a great describer of tasting notes, but this beer... It had me floored on how amazing it was. This Single Barrel Medianoche was aged for 19 months in Woodford Reserve Rye Whiskey barrels then aged on toasted coconut and a local coffee from Zoe's Cafe and Events in Greeley. I am telling you this was an amazing beer!
I would have easily spent $40 on a bomber of this no problem. Sadly, this was a taproom only beer, so it wasn't going home with me. I am so very happy that we chose that night to go into Weldwerks Brewing for the first time ever. It will never be a beer that I ever forget. If you have a chance and you have never been, I highly recommend a trip into Weldwerks for a beer. You won't be disappointed, no matter what type of beer you enjoy.
