Taser and K9-Assisted Drug Bust Goes Down in Loveland
Two individuals were booked on various drug-related and miscellaneous charges after a Taser and K-9 dog-assisted bust went down in Loveland on Monday.
According to a press release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop just before midnight on Monday evening at 14th Street SE and South Lincoln Avenue in Loveland. As the vehicle stopped, the deputy noticed it swaying side to side, and additional deputies and officers were requested and responded to assist.
The female driver, identified as Savanna Lynn Grose, 25, of Longmont, initially refused to exit the vehicle but eventually complied. Deputies did not find anyone in the passenger seat, however, a man was discovered hiding in the trunk.
When the man, identified as Christopher John Tafoya, Jr., 32, of Loveland, refused to show deputies both of his hands, a Taser was deployed in the deputies' attempt to gain control of him; however, he began to physically resist and continued to conceal one of his hands as deputies pulled him from the trunk. It was then that a Larimer county Sheriff's Office K-9 was deployed, and Tafoya was taken into custody after being bit by the dog.
Deputies also found illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.
Tafoya, who had 3 outstanding warrants for his arrest, was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries from the K-9 bite. He was then booked into the Larimer County Jail with bond set at $3,500 on charges of unlawful possession controlled substance, possession drug paraphernalia, and obstruct peace officer, resisting arrest, as well as 2 Loveland Police Department warrants for driving under restraint and harassment (both failure to appear) and one Boulder County Sheriff's Warrant for violation of protection order (civil).
Grose was also arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail with bond set at $1,250 for charges of obstruct peace officer, unlawful possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and accessory to crime.
Charges are an accusation at this point, and defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
