It's been happening since the 1930s, when the Salvation Army started serving doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Going on 100 years later, you and I can get a free doughnut (or 'donut') today, in almost any town in Northern Colorado...

National Doughnut Day is on Friday, and two local doughnut businesses are taking advantage of the day and giving back to their customers with free product throughout the day.

I remember when I first moved to Fort Collins, Dunkin' Donuts. I can't tell you how many times I had gone there, likely not enough as they packed up their bags and moved away, all the way out of Fort Collins in 1998. And now, they're back, Midtown Fort Collins will thrive even more so now with this economic boost.

Whether you love doughnuts, or hate your pancreas, Friday, June 7 is National Doughnut Day! Celebrate by getting a free doughnut from Krispy Kreme, or getting a "free" doughnut from Dunkin' Donuts if you buy a drink.
