Starbucks is planting new roots in Fort Collins.

This time, the mega coffee chain will be getting another shot in a spot located right by the Colorado State University campus - in a spot not far from where another Starbucks was once located.

According to the Coloraodan. Starbucks will begin operating under the roof of the long-vacant former home of Cold Stone Creamery, located at 112 W. Laurel St. in Fort Collins, on Friday, Sept. 23.

The news comes after Starbucks chose to do away with its former brick and mortar at the southeastern corner of Laurel Street and College Avenue; Starbucks reps confirmed plans to open a new location just down the block, a spokesperson told the Coloradoan on Wednesday (Aug. 10).

The new coffee shop will reportedly be mobile-order-focused and will employ 15 people.

Starbucks Closes Traditional Shops To Make Room For Convenience

Starbucks officials have concluded that over two-thirds of orders now come from the company's mobile app, drive-thru, and delivery, as reported during an August earnings call.

To put that statistic into further perspective, the majority of orders coming through via an alternate method - whether it be via mobile app, drive-thru, or delivery - means that only about 28% of customers visiting and placing orders at Starbucks are doing so in-person with baristas, with a portion of them staying and drinking their beverages on store property.

According to Brian Yarborough, an analyst for Edward Jones, these changes at Starbucks don't mean that most locations will be without seating and space for customers to gather.

Rather, the big focus on drive-thru and mobile ordering came as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, although, a shift in priority was happening before COVID-19 hit, Yarbrough told Business Insider.

The coffee + beverage giant has gone out of its way to close various lower-performing mall locations nationwide to focus on the company's move its growing mobile system; Starbucks has even already created pick-up-only stores and partnered with Amazon to launch a joint Amazon Go store where only mobile orders and payments are accepted.

If you thought the future was coming, you're wrong - because the future is already here.
