Today the Denver Post has reported that Sports Authority will be closing approximately 140 out of 450 stores nationwide.  Three locations have been reported to close in Colorado are the flagship store located in Denver at 1000 Broadway, The Greenwood Village Location at 9000 E. Peakview Ave, and the S.A. Elite location in Boulder. Additionally, CBSDFW in Dallas, TX. has reported that Sports Authority locations across the Dallas Metroplex will close and other employees in both Austin and Houston have said the same.

Sports Authority owes over $643 million in debt and missed their January interest payment of $21 million. The interest 30 day payment deadline came due on Valentine's day. At the end of January, approximately 100 people were laid off, mainly at the Englewood corporate headquarters location in what was called a "balance sheet restructuring" in an attempt to avoid filing for bankruptcy.

Per the Boulder Sports Authority's website, the price reduction to eliminate inventory has already begun, with clearance items at an additional 75% off. The Boulder location is set to close on February 27th. No word yet on which, if any Northern Colorado locations may close.
