Popular Plus-Size Retailer May Be Disappearing from Colorado
Torrid Store Closures Will Probably Hit Colorado and Wyoming Shoppers in 2025
I'm going to shoot straight with you...
Growing up, I was hardly ever considered thin. I have and will probably always be a bit thicker, and there's no shame in that!
It took many years (and lots of therapy) to learn to accept myself and my body for what it is. As long as I make healthy choices (most of the time) I'm satisfied with what I see when I look in the mirror.

There's always room for self love, no matter what your size is.
I know that might sound cliché, but it's true!
I say that now, but when you're a young woman with a bigger body, there's bound to be some challenges.
No matter what size you are, it's always weird as a kid/tween to go try on new clothes at the local department store with your parents. I remember clear as day how frustrating it was to go jeans shopping with my mom.

I'm not trying to throw my mother under the bus, but neither of us were very good at expressing ourselves in a calm and rational way when trying on clothes. And I clearly remember that I was too tall or wide to get clothes from the juniors section at the age of 11 and 12.
So, instead of grabbing a cute glittery top that looked like something my friends would wear, my mom grabbed an almost business casual style top from the women's section.
It wasn't her fault! The normal tween stores didn't really have much in my size.
However, when I learned about stores and shops for people who are a bit bigger, that's when the game shifted for me. While there's still plenty of discrepancies with stores for plus sized folk and the products they sell, there are still more options.
Torrid Store Closures in 2025 — What You Need to Know
Stores like Torrid were places I'd be able to stop in if I needed to pick up something nice for a college activities event.
Now, after years of serving the plus sized community, Torrid brick and mortar stores will be closing.
Why Torrid Is Shutting Down 180 Locations
Earlier this month, officials from Torrid shared news following their first quarter earnings report.
Lisa Harper, the CEO of the company confirmed the plan that 180 of Torrid's "underperforming stores" will close by the end of this year.
“We remain in a strong financial position and are executing with clarity and focus. I’m incredibly proud of our team’s commitment to delivering innovative product, deepening customer connections, and building a more agile, resilient business for the future,” Harper went on to say.
What Torrid’s CEO Had to Say About the Closures
Officials from the company confirmed that the closure doesn't necessarily have to do with poor sales. It actually is just a sign of customers changing shopping habits.
In the press release, Harper confirmed that 70% of Torrid's sales are done through online shopping, proving that digital is continuing to be their "customer’s preferred channel."
