This was our first summer in our home as a homeowner and my first year as keeping up a yard in Colorado. I thought I knew what I was doing, but sometimes hindsight is 20/20.

This summer's weather took a toll on our yard, both front and back. The yard was brown, dying and had bald spots in almost every area of the yard. I did try to keep the water flowing as much as I could to the lawn during the summer heat. Nothing seemed to help... Until about 4 weeks ago.

I did a bit of research on fall yard care led me to something you would do in the summer. Aeration! I called a lawn care company to have them come out and aerate my front and back yard for about $40 and let me tell you that there is a HUGE difference in my yard's health.

I took this photo today as I was taking a break from working on the table. I have not watered the lawn since the sprinklers were blown out on October 29th. this is the greenest my lawn has been since we have lived here. I believe that the little plugs were pulled out of the yard so the soil could breath brought new life into my yard! I will certainly be doing another round of aeration come spring, along with fertilizing and grass seed. My father and grandpa had taken such great care of their yards, so I feel it only customary to carry on the tradition.
