On Monday, Aug. 16 in the evening, Fort Collins Police reported an officer-involved shooting in Loveland in a response to a 911 call.

The officer responded to the call in a residential area off Tennessee Street. When the officer arrived, he was met in the backyard of the male suspect's residence.

As the officer made contact with the man, he discovered the suspect was allegedly armed with a knife. In interacting with the suspect, the officer fired several shots and struck the man.

The suspect was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies and is currently being treated for his injuries. No officers sustained any injuries, and there is no current threat to the public.

Because of the incident, the 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was notified. They have now responded and taken over the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and will be led by Fort Collins Police Services.

Further information regarding the incident and investigation may be released at a later time.

Update: The CIRT has released further information from the investigation. The responding officer was sent out on a 911 call of 19-year-old Alexander Domina having a mental health crisis. Domina was allegedly armed with a knife when the officer made contact at the home. Domina reportedly moved forward toward the officer, and that is when the officer fired his duty weapon. Other officers arrived and provided medical assistance until medical crews arrived. Domina remains in the care of Medical Center of the Rockies.
