New Yurts Coming to Northern Colorado’s State Forest State Park
State Forest State Park is located about two hours west of Fort Collins and offers a rugged escape without the crowds of some of the more visited outdoor destinations in Colorado.
The expansive park near Walden provides idyllic scenery and diverse terrain with jagged peaks, alpine lakes, abundant wildlife, and 71,000 acres of forest.
This summer, brand new camping options will be available to visitors wanting to stay overnight at State Forest State Park. While several yurts previously existed on-site, the structures have now been removed.
Fortunately, as the new concessionaire for the State Forest State Park Yurt camping program, Yonder Yurts is building seven new rental yurts to replace the former structures.
According to the Steamboat-based company, they are constructing hard-sided yurt-cabins from Freedom Yurt-Cabins. With guests' comfort being the top priority, these yurts have better insulation and a higher R-value than soft-sided yurts and provide more protection from the elements and wildlife. They also last longer.
This year, Yonder Yurts plans on building three structures that are approximately 16’ in diameter and four that are about 20’ in diameter. They hope to start renting the yurts/ huts by mid-summer 2024.
Yonder Yurts will also oversee the management of the Agnes Creek Cabin and Nokhu Hut inside the park.
Updates on construction and opening of reservations will be available on the Yonder Yurts website www.yonder-yurts.com, as well as on CPW’s website.
