New Wolf Pups Confirmed in Routt County
A new year means a new litter of wolf pups in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. These new wolf pups belong to the newly named King Mountain Pack located in Routt County.
According to Vail Daily, the pups were born around mid-April and were captured on video by Colorado Parks and Wildlife trail cameras that were placed near the pack's rendezvous site on June 22, 2025.

At this time, the exact number and gender of new wolf pups is unknown. What officials do know is that they appear to be at least four new wolf pups that are approximately 10 to 12 weeks old.

"They are not at the point where they can travel with a pack, but they are out and about." Said Eric Odell, Colorado Parks and Wildlife's wolf program manager.
Newly Named Wolf Packs in Colorado
The video evidence was revealed just after the official naming of the new wolf packs in Colorado. Three new packs have been created in parts of Northwestern Colorado:
- One Ear Pack - Jackson County, Colorado
- The King Mountain Pack - Routt County, Colorado
- The Three Creeks Pack - Rio Blanco, Colorado
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will only classify an official wolf pack as established only after the group of wolves has successfully reproduced. Each pack can have four to six wolf pups in a litter; however, the survival rate can be low. These three new packs are in addition to the Copper Creek Wolf Pack that was established in 2024.
