Xcel Energy states that areas potentially affected may experience power shutoffs beginning Friday, January 16, at approximately 7 a.m. The good news is that if a Public Safety Power Shutoff is required, there will be fewer Colorado residents affected than the previous Public Safety Power Shutoff that occurred in December 202,5 which affected parts of the Denver Metro Area and Boulder.

Additional Safety Measures To Be Activated

Another safety measure will be activated in Northern Colorado for the possible extreme fire weather event on Friday. Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings will make the lines more sensitive, and the flow of electricity could be stopped if an issue, such as a tree branch touching one of the lines, is detected.
