Help Starving Kids Worldwide With Slammin’ Famine
Slammin' Famine is out to feed starving kids worldwide and they want your help right here in Northern Colorado.
On February 9-11, 2023 at The Ranch in Loveland, CO, Slammin' Famine will be hosting a meal packaging event that will supply meals for children in need. "Tuned In to NoCo" had the chance to speak with the Co-Founders of Slammin' Famine, Eric Dowdy and Brian Zonnefeld. They both couldn't be more excited to bring this event to Northern Colorado and Dowdy says, anyone who has the desire to volunteer is not only welcome but in for an unforgettable experience.
"You're gonna come in. We give you a quick training session and you are jumping out to pack meals. There's loud music. You're gonna have a lot of fun, and you are probably going to have as big or a bigger impact with this two-hour event than you'll find anywhere else, and you are going to have fun doing it."
Zonnefeld says that In just two hours, a volunteer can package enough meals to feed a starving child for 7 months.
"These meals are so cheap. It's about 25 cents per meal, and the average volunteer will pack about $50-$55 worth of meals in a session."
This year, Slammin Famine passed out their 4 millionth meal, and Dowdy says it's all because the volunteers in our state are a cut above the company.
"In the years that we have done this, the Colorado community has absolutely exploded around it. It's been like a train engine on the tracks. It's just gathered steam and has resonated with the community along the Front Range in Colorado."
Slammin' Famine's ultimate goal is to make sure the needs of all starving children are met and Dowdy says, this is why the meals they package are different and unique.
"We really focus on helping to feed starving kids worldwide, and we design, pack and purchase all the ingredients for specially designed meals. These meals are culturally sensitive meals and are sent overseas to areas where kids are literally dying of starvation."
Slammin' Famine is committed to raising funds for the raw food ingredients contained in the packaged meals through an organization called Feed My Starving Children.
