When it comes to all the things that Colorado has to offer, wineries doesn't immediately rise to the top of people's minds, but in March of 2025 a new one opened in Loveland.

New Winery for Colorado Opens in Loveland

The Western Slope of Colorado is widely-known as having some great wineries, especially in Palisade. It's great that the Front Range of Colorado might becoming known for wine, as well.

While Winery 5280's vineyard is in the southwestern part of Loveland, their winery and small tasting room are on the east side of town near Walmart.

In early March of 2025, Winery 5280 officially opened in Loveland; though Loveland's elevation is 5,997 feet, their name is not about elevation, but about their faith.

Loveland welcomed its first winery to town in 2008, when Sweet Heart Winery (as it's known today) began operating on the west side of town; nearly 20 years later, the east side of Loveland was to be found Winery 5280.

Winery 5280 officially began operation in 2024, producing wine from grapes that came from the Western Slope of Colorado, but will eventually produce wines from their own grapes grown on their vineyard property in southwest Loveland, near the foothills.

Winery 5280 created their name from the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 (Luke 9:10-17)

Form Winery 5280's website:

We keep our foundation rooted in God and are always looking for the ways that he is working in our lives.  We believe the winery is more than just wine.  This winery is an opportunity for us to be the hands and feet of Christ to others.

Winery 5280 had produced wines that were ready for sale when their winery's doors opened in March of 2025, with four varietals:

  • Marquette (red)
  • Petite Pear (red)
  • Brianna (white)
  • Frontenac Blanc (white)

As Winery 5280 first opened, their tasting room was just a small space within the winery. It reminds me of how when Odell Brewing first opened, a friend and I would go to their production facility where Doug Odell himself would fill up growlers right from the big vessel.

The winery will open a nice tasting room and event center on their vineyard property (like Sweet Heart) a few years down the line. It'll be great for Lovelanders and tourists of Loveland to have another wine destination in the Sweetheart City.
