Popular Grocery Chain Closing Over 30 Locations
Ever since the pandemic hit, and still to this day, businesses have been struggling to stay afloat.
Closing down stores that are underperforming, and having to file for bankruptcy seem to be the norm of today's day and age.
Popular grocery chain closing over 2 dozen locations.
Stop & Shop, a popular grocery chain in the Northeast is set to close 32 underperforming stores by the end of 2024.
The parent company, Ahold Delhaize USA, is not referring to it's closures as an inflation problem, instead they got creative.
The company calls the closures part of their global "Growing Together" strategy, which they launched in May 2024 to grow sales, maintain margins and achieve sustainability and inclusivity goals.
Part of that strategy seems to be closing down underperforming stores in five states, however, even after the closures, there will still be 350 Stop & Shop locations in America.

Now, usually in these instances, a CEO or president steps forward and makes a somewhat comforting announcement. This is the case in this instance as well.
Stop & Shop president, Gordon Reid, says, "Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers and communities."
As with most of these closures, the company promises to provide options for the impacted employees of the downsizing.
However, that would require some employees to travel even further for work, or perhaps, even relocate, which isn't in the cards for everyone.
