Interim Larimer County Commissioner Sworn Into Office
Sean Dougherty has been sworn in to fill the Larimer County Commissioner District I seat vacated by the late Larimer County Commissioner Lew Gaiter III. Gaiter lost a long battle with cancer at his home on September 18.
Dougherty was selected with a unanimous vote from the Larimer County Republican Party Vacancy Committee to fill the seat until the end of December, 2018.
The District I seat will then be filled for a four-year term by the November 2018 General Election winner for Larimer County Commissioner.
Dougherty has lived in Colorado for almost 30 years working as a Realtor and has served as a member of the Larimer County Planning Commission for eight years.
Sean sent me the following statement:
I'm honored to have been appointed to be the Interim Larimer County Commissioner, to complete the term of Lew Gaiter. While I have been a candidate to be elected to the position of Commissioner for nearly a year, I did not want to start like this. Lew was my mentor for the past 9 years, and a friend for nearly 20. He did so much to prepare me for my role as his successor, and I'm looking forward to doing everything I can to live up to his legacy while serving the citizens of Larimer County.
Lew Gaiter's Memorial Service will be on October 20, at 10:00AM, at Timberline Church.
