I've been a bartender for almost 14 years and the two universal topics you DON'T talk about at a bar are religion and politics. So, with that said, I was never much of a political person. If I couldn't discuss it at my bar, I didn't have much use for it. I never watched the news, didn't read about politics in the newspaper and when someone brought it up, my response was simply that "I am not a political person."
Since I've moved to Colorado 3 1/2 years ago, I found myself in a whirlwind of political information, issues and opinions. Be it the marijuana laws, gay rights, gun ownership, the Monsanto debate or the current presidential and economic situation. I have formulated my own educated opinion on each of these issues, but the objective isn't to impose my thoughts on you. No. The purpose of this is to say thank you to the great state of Colorado for opening my eyes to a world I never cared about before. I would also like to say thank you to the Colorado Sheriffs that have united to take a stand for their beliefs. Whether you agree or not with what they're doing, I find it inspiring to see that we as a people still can have a voice that can be heard. Last but not least, I would like to thank the current presidential administration. I am not taking sides here. Because of the current administration, more people are becoming politically involved. As the case with myself. I honestly believe, regardless of which side you take, the next election will not only be decided by the most informed voters ever but the MOST voters ever.
