History Brown Bags are free afternoon events that aim to provide cultural and historical context to topics related to Historic Preservation in and around Greeley. Presentations are held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th St.

  • On February 18, the Colorado Model Railroad Museum, 680 10th St., hosts a History Brown Bag presentation at noon. The topic is “The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald” presented by David Trussell, founder of the museum. Visitors to the presentation will be able to see the model exhibited at the museum while Trussell tells the story of the ship.
  • On February 25, Greeley Museums Staff presents “Historic Food Preservation Techniques.”
  • How big of an impact did Greeley’s location have on its development? On March 24, Peggy Ford Waldo presents “Location, Location, Location: Greeley’s Development Dilemma.”
  • On April 28, Joan Clinefelter presents “The Holocaust: Ten Things You Never Knew You Wanted to Know.”
  • Everyone asks about Greeley’s underground tunnels. Here’s your chance to learn more on May 26, from Bill Veach.
  • Ken Kleinsorge presents “The Great Western Cattle Trail” on June 23.
    There will be a Young Chautauqua performance on July 28.
  • Tannis Bator presents as Rattlesnake Kate on August 25. Bator has done Rattlesnake Kate presentations for a number of years and always delights audiences with her authenticity.
  • Fans of the railroad and history buffs alike will enjoy the presentation by author Ken Jessen on his book, “The Great Western Railway” on September 22. This highly illustrated talk starts with the need for the railroad at its start up until the present day.
  • The final presentation of the year is October 27, by Ron & Linde Thompson called “Plaster Disaster Recovery.”
