Some Seriously Spooky Places In Northern Colorado
Fort Collins was established in 1862. Greeley was established in 1870. Loveland? The city of love came about in 1877.
With well over one hundred years of being around, Northern Colorado must have some crazy urban legends. Let's take a look at the strangest of the strange urban legends and how they originated.
Fort Collins
The Avery House is one of the oldest Victorian-style houses in Fort Collins. Located off of Mountain Avenue in the heart of FOCO, the house was built in 1879 for a prominent businessman in the community.
With a house that old, you gotta know there might be some ghosts hanging around. So what's the Avery House legend? Many locals believe there's an entire underground tunnel that runs from the businesses to some houses in Old Town.
The house is also said to be very haunted, with staff and volunteers hearing footsteps, feeling cold spots, and seeing doors open and close on their own. The most common legend is the spirit of a young boy haunting one of the upstairs bedrooms.
Greeley
Did you know that the most common urban legend in Greeley has to be the ghosts- that's right, more than one- of the Weld County Courthouse? Me neither.
Employees of the historic downtown building, which was built in 1915 but didn't officially open until July 4th of 1917, have reported hearing strange noises and seeing mysterious figures.- especially near the grandfather clock on the second floor.
Loveland
If you've ever been to Rialto Theatre in Loveland, you can plainly see it's a beautiful building with lots of character. Built way back in 1920, employees and guests have reported hearing whispering and footsteps and seeing mysterious figures.
Add in the fact that the lights turn on and off on their own, and some have seen a mysterious figure on the balcony, and you can bet it might be one of the most haunted places in Northern Colorado.
Northern Colorado has a lot of history that every resident should check out at least once. If you're brave enough.
