“There’s nothing within my power to repair the pain of a mother or the victim’s family,” Judge Vince Vigil said during the sentencing hearing, as per the press release. “I can’t help them heal. I can’t bring their son back. The only thing I can do is acknowledge the severity of this tragic crime.”

A jury first convicted Gonzalez-Quezada back in May of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment for shooting and killing 24-year-old Gilberto Marron in October of 2019.

The fatal shooting occurred outside the 16th Street Gym in Greeley; the victim had been sitting in the backseat of the defendant’s wife’s car.

“His life hadn’t even started yet,” Weld Deputy District Attorney Ashley Fetyko said. “To have him gunned down in the parking lot like he was, it’s egregious beyond words. There is absolutely no excuse for why his life was ended.”

Weld Assistant District Attorney Robb Miller and Deputy District Attorney Ashley Fetyko prosecuted this case, as per the press release.
