
Colorado County Plans a Return to Horseback Policing
You know, it blows my mind at how fast technological advances have been made over the past few decades. I know I am not that old, but yet, I can still remember the days of when my parents had a black and white television, a corded phone on the wall, and us kids as the remote control for that black and white TV.

Electronics aren't the only thing that has advanced over the years. Take cars, for example. As kids of the 80s, we all hoped to see flying cars one day. In 2025, we've got self-driving cars, but I consider that one step closer to the flying cars of our dreams.

Bringing Back Law Enforcement on Horseback in Colorado
It is kind of wild to think that there was a time not too long ago when law enforcement used to ride through parts of Colorado on horseback. That old west tradition goes back in time over 140 years, and soon, it could be a normal sight to see in Western Colorado.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office, mounted patrol in this Colorado county could be making a return, by "keeping Western Colorado western".
Advantages of a Modern Mounted Patrol Unit
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office says that the addition of mounted patrol in the Colorado county would give law enforcement several advantages over a patrol unit. Enhanced visibility, crowd control and management, maneuvering in difficult terrain, flexibility, agility, community engagement, and public relations are all just a few examples of how bringing back law enforcement on horses could benefit the Garfield County Sheriff's Office.
Matching Donations Support Mounted Patrol Revival
To help get the horseshoes on the ground in Garfield County, the sheriff's office has started raising funds for the endeavor. Alpine Bank has also offered to double the donation for every dollar donated to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol Unit. For more information, see the Facebook post below:
