Growing Up In Fort Collins Was Magical For These Reasons
Growing up in Northern Colorado, especially in the 90s, was just magical. It was safe, so we were allowed to roam a little more, and things were cheap, which meant we could do more activities.
But there are three things I think every kid did if they grew up in Northern Colorado.
Fort Ram
The only biker bar/family-fun restaurant in FOCO, Fort Ram, seems almost like a dream from my childhood. Was it even real? The food was sub-par, and the clientele was questionable, but it was still somehow amazing, and it had a huge dance floor.
Fort Ram was also known for its great food and drink menu and specials, including penny beer night, which always brought in the CSU students.
Fort Ram later became a nightclub called The Matrixx. I know, right?
City Park Trolley/Train
Why was the miniature train at City Park so iconic? Was it the location? Was it the old man conductor? I firmly believe the city only hired people over the age of 70. The miniature train ran for literal decades.
Also, because it was located right next to the city pool, the train was always full, and I miss it every day. Okay, every day might be a slight exaggeration, but I think about it way more than I should.
Round The Corner
There was once a time you could go into a restaurant, sit in a booth, and pick up a phone to order. Round the Corner also had an amazing menu with gourmet burgers and milkshakes. It was a retro dream.
There's nothing I love more than reminiscing about growing up in Fort Collins. Excuse me while I cry.
