When you're in Fort Collins, are the police going to pull you over for going five miles per hour over the speed limit? Maybe. Maybe not. That is always the risk you take when going over the speed limit.

However, if you are going 63 miles per hour over the speed limit, you are certainly going to get pulled over. That is exactly what happened in Fort Collins recently. Fort Collins Police Services posted on Facebook about a daring, yet stupid, speeder. The driver was clocked at 103 miles per hour.

Fort Collins Police say that officers are continuing to address egregious and the most dangerous traffic violations that keep occurring in the city. According to the post made by Fort Collins Police Services, the driver of the vehicle caught going 103 miles per hour has been cited for multiple traffic violations.

Colorado's Points Based Driver's License

Coloradans who have a driver's license know all about the points system. A Colorado driver starts out with zero points on their license. Each traffic infraction can add points to your driver's license. The Colorado Department of Revenue says your driver's license can be suspended if you are an adult and accumulate 12 points within 12 months and 18 points or more within any 24 months.  According to bresee.com, there are only five traffic infractions that can instantly tack on 12 points to your driver's license.

  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Evading an officer
  • Speed contest
  • Driving under the influence
  • Speeding over 40 mph

The driver could face not only hefty fines for needless and dangerous speeding, the driver can also lose their license as they were caught going 63 miles per hour over the speed limit. Drive safe.
