A Fun Tradition: Fort Collins Nursery’s 2022 Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Jamboree
Big. Really big. Extraordinarily big. Giant. Giant pumpkins will shock many, and will be weighed, at the fun fall festival.
They aren't necessarily "sexy," but they are beautiful in their own wonderful way. Ten pumpkin growers will win prizes, as part of a $6,000 purse for the day's events.
It must be exciting, to look into your garden, being able to say to yourself, "This year, we've got a chance!" Does your garden have what it takes to be one of the Top 10? Maybe even the winner? This event is one of only four in Colorado that are sponsored by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, so you know it's a big-err- GIANT deal.
Celebrating their 90th year of operation, Fort Collins Nursery is busy planning for a day that's anticipated every year: The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Fall Jamboree. After a summer of high temps, the cooler temperatures will bring out a big crowd and very large vegetables.
For 14 years they've been putting on this contest/event, which gets better with each season. Two years of having to deal with the pandemic will have everyone ready for smiles, music, refreshments and fun, too.
The 2021 winning giant pumpkin weighed 1,676 pounds. There'll be no betting for this event, but would you bet this year's will weigh more or less than that? It must be quite a chore to get those pumpkins over to the nursery, but when there's a will, there's a way.
Entering the contest is free, just get there between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. that day.
