Fort Collins Fire Displaces 82 People from Local Homeless Shelter

A weekend fire in Fort Collins has left more than eighty people without a place to stay.

On Saturday, August 23rd first responders from the Poudre Fire Authority were sent out to a scene near Jefferson and Linden streets, according to a report from Denver 7.

At approximately 7:16 PM they arrived at the Fort Collins Rescue Mission.

Fire Quickly Extinguished, No Injuries Reported

First responders were able to put out the fire quickly, saving the hundred people seeking shelter there at the time. Luckily, none of these residents were injured.

The City of Fort Collins Office of Emergency Management assisted in helping the displaced residents in the best way that they could.

Extensive Damage Likely to Disrupt Operations at Fort Collins Rescue Mission

Unfortunately, the damage from this fire will likely disrupt operations of the Rescue Mission for months.

As a result, 82 people have been displaced.

The Rescue Mission's CEO Dennis Van Kampen confirmed that the fire started in the kitchen.

Fort Collins Rescue Mission Calls for Community Support

"Most importantly, we are thanking God that - none of our roughly 80 shelter guests or Mission staff were injured in the ordeal," said Kampen in a statement on social media.

He is asking for prayers and monetary donations so they can help rebuild.

"We need you," the CEO of both the Denver and Fort Collins locations said.

"This is going to cost a lot of money..."
