In Colorado, we tend to have mostly mild weather. We Don't suffer through hurricanes or typhoons, but we can have some pretty sever weather events. Tornadoes, blizzards and hail can all wreak havoc on homes and businesses in our state.

As severe weather season creeps up on us, we look back at the most expensive weather events in the state of Colorado... All of which have been caused by hail.

June of 1984 - this hailstorm caused an estimated $276.7 million in damages. In 2018 dollars, it would have been $664.5 million.

June 6-7, 2012 - A hailstorm that caused $321.1 million in damages.

June 6-15, 2009 - A tornado and hailstorms in the Denver Metro area caused an estimated $353.3 million in damages.

July 1990 - The hailstorm caused $625 million in damages. The 2018 dollar amount would have been $1.19 billion.

July 20, 2009 - A hail and windstorm caused $767.6 million dollars in damages in the Denver Metro area. The cost in 2018 would have been $892.8 million.

May 8, 2017 - The massive hailstorm in the Denver Metro area was the most expensive catastrophic event in Colorado history. The hailstorm caused an estimated $2.3 billion in damages. Damages brought on by the hail forced the Colorado Mills Mall to close for more than half a year.
