First Olympic Museum In USA Set to Open In Colorado
The United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum will open to the public this Friday (July 30).
This will be the first Olympic museum in the United States totaling 60,000-square-foot and located in downtown Colorado Springs this will be “one of the most accessible and interactive museums in the world,” according to a press release.
Museum visitors will “journey” alongside athletes from training to competition to the medal ceremony.
This can be a customizable experience. Each visitor’s ticket comes with an embedded chip that prompts certain information about a sport or athlete the visitor chooses, which shows up on at different exhibit screens.
The museum will showcase both the Summer and Winter Games history, as well as the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame.
Athletes from Team USA were involved throughout the project as consultants to create an authentic experience.
The museum went over budget by nearly $15 million, and total costs estimated to $91 million to build, according to The Associated Press. The groundbreaking took place back in 2017.
Colorado Springs is headquarters for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic committees, the Colorado Springs Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, and more than 20 national Olympic governing bodies which is why it's known as Olympic City USA.
Ticket admission is the following:
- $24.95 for adults
- $14.95 for children aged three to 12,
- $19.95 for seniors 65 or older, and military or first responders with ID.
- Children two and under are free.
