Prayers for our friends in Loveland, what a horrible way to start the week. According to news affiliate KKTV in Colorado Springs, the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority (LFRA) posted dramatic photos from the scene early Monday morning showing a large home engulfed in flames. The fire has already caused major damage.

The fire department has not yet released whether the structure was occupied, so let’s all send prayers to those affected. Upon arrival Monday morning around 3:30, firefighters encountered a fully engulfed residential structure and initiated a defensive strategy to contain the fire and protect surrounding properties.

Here are some Northern Colorado fire safety tips

  • Clear dry brush, leaves, and pine needles around your home
  • Keep at least 5 feet of defensible space around structures
  • Pack a “go bag” with essentials in case of evacuation
  • Sign up for local emergency alerts (like Larimer & Weld County notifications)
  • Test smoke alarms monthly and change batteries at least once a year. Don't just wait until it wakes you up at 2:30 in the morning to change the batteries.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and know how to use it
  • Create a fire escape plan with your family (and actually practice it!)
  • Never leave cooking unattended this is the #1 cause of house fires

Again, with the current situation in all of Colorado being dry as a bone, we must all stay diligent to keep our community and homes safe. So keep your family and community in your prays for moisture as well as our brave Northern Colorado Firefighters!
